Global Missions Conference 2005 a Success!
JIM REPPART, Director for Church Equipping

Inspiring. Comprehensive. Rich. Substantive. Productive. Unifying.

These are but a few of the descriptive words we have been hearing from those who attended the first Global Missions Conference July 20-23 at the Arlington Convention Center in Dallas-Fort Worth. Several missions veterans declared that it was the most comprehensive and collaborative missions event to date for churches of Christ. People were invited to come to a "Missions banquet" and they were not disappointed.

What made it that way'

Over 1000 attendees came from all across the nation and several
foreign countries representing mission works around the globe.
Special emphasis was placed upon the work of the church in the
Muslim world and in Asia, especially China.

Nearly 50 sponsors representing a cross-section of our brotherhood
universities, colleges, schools, and mission ministries banded
together to financially support the conference, giving it a spirit of
unity and brotherly love from its inception.

Over 80 exhibitors displayed, informed, promoted and encouraged a
vast variety of different missions ministries or missions-related
ministries.

Over 80 teachers, five keynote speakers, and another dozen or so
on panels made it a comprehensive conference covering many topics
of pertinent interest for missionaries, supporting churches and
missions-minded people. There were valuable lessons for those
wanting to be missionaries, those who are, and those who want to
train, support and care for them.

It was a time for networking. Churches were connected with
like-minded churches to provide synergistic power in supporting
mission work. Experts were tapped for needed information. Teachers
of missions shared their knowledge and wise missionaries shared
their lessons, seasoned by years of experience. One of the favorite
events was a panel of nine veteran missionaries discussing, 'If I had
to do it over again . . .' What a joy it was to listen to their advice and
then to honor them with an extended standing ovation. They are
heroes passing down a legacy to coming generations.

Worship, in the reading of the word and the praise of our lips,
brought us before the throne of God several times a day reminding
us whose mission we are about. In these periods of worship,
greetings from churches all around the world were delivered by
brothers in their native languages, reminding us of the global aspect
of God's mission.

We encourage you to order CD's and DVD's of the classes and messages delivered at the conference by going to the following website and filling out the order form: www.dovecassettes.com/0509.htm. Share them with your missions committee and use them to inform and educate those who are willing to serve in God's mission.

We are so thrilled with the success and response to the first conference that we are already planning the next one for July 23-26, 2008. So mark your calendars and plan to attend with your missions committee and other missions-minded people. And schedule your missionary's furlough to coincide with the conference so they, too, can take advantage of this power-packed missions event!
