Adoration
Welcome to a new year of praying! We are excited to see what God does in the MedRim, Bengal, and Emerging Leadership Initiatives in part through the prayers of His people in 2021!
In the past, we’ve used these blogs to inform you of what to pray for these three works that we believe God has called us to be a part of initiating. This year, though, we’re changing things up! We’ll spend six of the next twelve months talking about the how of praying for these Initiatives and the others talking about the why.
We’ll start by speaking of one of the most important ways God’s people pray: adoration. These are prayers to God about God. We declare truths about who He is and adore Him for these. When you set your heart to pray prayers of adoration, it’s pretty easy to slip into praise for what He’s done (or hope He’ll do) rather than who Heis. That’s certainly okay, but this month we want to encourage you to focus on practicing your adoration prayer muscles.
You already have in your possession, and on your phone, the greatest prayer book ever – God’s Holy Bible. The scriptures are filled with the people of God praising God for who He is. The names of God given in scripture reveal a God worthy of our adoration.
This begs the question – how do prayers of adoration relate to praying for Initiatives and discipleship around the world?
First, these prayers don’t just praise God, but they also move our own hearts to where they need to be.
Second, the enemy and his servants are pushed back when God’s people praise.
Third, adoration prayers crack open the door when you just don’t feel like praying or know where to start.
Fourth, God’s people adoring God for who He is has always been a part of declaring that the Kingdom of God has come…and is still coming!
Finally, it places you in company of and solidarity with untold voices around this globe adoring God in so many of the world’s languages.
This month we challenge you to adore God for who He is. Choose some of the names of God given in scripture that matter most to you. Call out some of your own creation (yes, He’s the God of the cattle on a thousand hills, but also the God of the trees in a thousand ravines, and of the fish in a thousand lakes).
Join with the glorious cacophony of believers adoring God as He pushes back the darkness in the MedRim, around the Bay of Bengal, and in the lives of Emerging Leaders.
Pray that God will raise up servant leaders with heart.
