Praying for Libya

For centuries, the Psalms have given the people of God words, given voice to emotions we don’t know how to express otherwise. Join with me in praying Psalm 29 over the people of Libya today, friends.

We declare today, Lord, that all glory and strength is Yours.

We cry out, giving glory to Your name.

We know that You alone are holy.

Your voice is over the waters; You speak, and thunder rolls over the waters.

Your voice is powerful; Your voice is majestic.

Just a word from You and trees break, nations tremble, and deserts are rattled.

We need that word today, Lord. In Jesus’ name, have mercy! Flood waters have already claimed more than 11,300 of those made in Your image, most of whom died with Jesus.

Have mercy on the 10,000 still missing, Father of the Prodigal Son and Shepherd of the Lost Sheep. Let them be found alive, and, having been found, let them find Jesus. Raise the city of Derna up from the mud and somehow make it a city on a hill, showing the Light of the God who had mercy on them.

Bring unity to the splintered country of Libya; bring the competing governments in eastern and western Libya to a place of common caring for their communities. And when that miracle happens, Lord, bring glory to Yourself in it.

You are enthroned over the flood. You are King Forever.

Today, give strength to Your people. Bless Your people with peace.

By the Prince of Peace we pray,

Amen.
