Praying for Hindus
We’re posting this blog on October 30. It’s the second of the five days traditionally associated with celebrating Diwali. It’s the day on which Hindus decorate their homes with clay lamps and create rangoli, striking patterns on their floors from colored sand. They do it as an invitation to their goddess Lakshmi and the good luck she can bring.
Why am I starting by telling you this?
Because here at MRN we love Hindus.
And because Jesus does, too.
We’re in the middle of our annual Hindu Prayer Challenge. We take the days surrounding Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, to pray that the light of Jesus would shine brightly among Hindus. If you’d like to read previous entries from this prayer challenge, just click here. It’s also not too late to sign up for the rest of our prayer challenge; you can do that here.
We do this as a part of our Bengal Initiative, a calling that we believe God has placed on our organization to develop leaders who are making disciples among the unreached Hindus and Buddhists who live in the countries surrounding the Bay of Bengal. You can find out more about this effort here.
In the meantime, as Hindus look to bring light into their homes through clay lamps, pray the words of Jesus from John 8:12 over them: I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life. Pray that the light of Jesus will burst into Hindu homes throughout India and the whole Bengal region. Pray that the light of life – worth so much more than any clay lamp – would shine brightly in ways that draw Hindus to Jesus.
Finally, I’m inviting you to fast with us tomorrow during the primary day of celebration of Diwali. I’ll tell you tomorrow on our Hindu Prayer Challenge email how we’re praying, but for now decide whether you’ll join us in fasting for a day and make the necessary plans.
Peace, friend.
Andy
P.S. We create three prayer challenges annually, one each for Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus. If you’d like to go ahead and sign up for our next one, you can beat the rush and do it here.
Are you interested in sharing Jesus with unreached people of the world? Or do you know someone who you think God is calling?
We can help!
