God and Resolutions
First, happy New Year! May the Father reveal Himself and His love for you more and more throughout 2025!
Second, how are those New Year’s resolutions working out for you??
If you are like me, you have resolved any number of things, whether you formally spelled them out as resolutions or not. I have those pounds I’d like to drop, those books I’d like to read, that garage I’d like to clean out.
I might get to some of those.
Resolutions are rather toothless without plans, I’ve found. Here at MRN, one of the things we say often is that Spiritual discernment precedes strategic planning. By this we mean that we work to listen to God before we make plans, that we ask Him what He’d have us do this year before we set our budgets. Rather than starting from what we’d like to do or think we have the funds to do, we actively put ourselves in a listening posture to hear what He would like us to do.
Then we try to figure out how to pay for it!
This often leads to all manner of vigorous conversations, but we believe the order matters. We have found that if our starting point is listening to God, He often surprises us and winds up making good use of us in surprising ways and places.
This month, as you turn your mind and your heart to praying for cross-cultural workers, join me in praying:
That they would put in the work to be still before Him to listen well;
That the Spirit would speak to and direct cross-cultural workers toward His Kingdom;
That workers would listen first – in their interactions with the Father and with those around them;
That God’s Lordship would be acknowledged and experienced in new and surprising ways and places in 2025.
Blessings, friend.
And good luck with that garage.
Peace.
Andy
